SHILLONG: When there is protest against the alleged misuse of central funds by the present Executive Committee of the GHADC led by NPP, there is undue delay on the part of the State government to release the earlier judicial inquiry report on the financial irregularities of the Council way back in 2009-10.
The allegation against the EC headed by CEM Denang T. Sangma is that over Rs 100 crore development funds were withdrawn by individual MDCs from the ruling side. Sources said on Thursday that there was hardly any protest from the pressure groups over the delay on the part of the Congress-led government to release the judicial probe report that has been pending for almost four years.
The government had assured the Opposition members in the Assembly several times about the release of the report, but in vain.
The matter also came up in the Assembly in September this year and the reply of the District Council Affairs Minister, Prestone Tynsong, was that the department was in touch with other departments concerned for a detailed examination of the findings.
Retired Judge PG Agarwal had submitted the report on the GHADC scam on December 29, 2012.
The alleged financial irregularities took place in the GHADC in 2009-10 during the tenure of then GHADC CEM PK Sangma, who was with NCP.
Sangma joined the Congress and unsuccessfully contested both the 2013 Assembly polls and the GHADC polls held in October last year.
The scam in GHADC surfaced after the then Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Sanjay Goyal, conducted an audit report and found out financial irregularities, including illegal appointments, in the Council in 2009-10 that compelled the State government to institute the judicial probe.
