New forest law to be framed
The Executive Committee of the JHADC has decided to frame a new forest law. JHADC CEM Thombor Shiwat and Deputy CEM A. Andrew Shullai said the committee has hired K.M Pala of GIZ Consultancy to draft the new forest law for Jaintia Hills. “The EC has proposed to update and upgrade the outdated forest policy of the JHADC,” Shullai said.

The JHADC Executive Committee has translated the Village and Elaka Administration Act, or the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District into Khasi. CEM Thombor Shiwat said the Act in both languages will be bound together and sold to the public.
JHADC against illegal fishing
The Council has taken strong action against illegal fishing competition in the region and is planning to issue non-encumbrance certificates to land owners  Briefing media persons here on Thursday after the winter session, JHADC Chief Thombor Shiwat said the Executive Committee has decided to deal with illegal fishing competitions in Jaintia Hills.
Shiwat informed that the JHADC would generate revenue from such activities. One percent of the total cash prize will be collected by the JHADC if any permission is granted to an event.
“Fishing competitions are being organised regularly by a group of people and by an individual in various parts of Jaintia Hills. Such competitions involve huge cash prizes and are being organised without permission from any authority,” he said.
“We have decided that such competitions should not be allowed anymore without permission from the JHADC,” he added.
