SHILLONG/NONGSTOIN/JOWAI: Eight more KHADC and JHADC by-poll candidates, including the son of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, filed their nomination papers on Friday.
Nathaniel Osbert Rymbai, the minister’s son, filed his nomination papers as a Congress candidate from Sohiong-Nongspung constituency. Independent candidate Pret Mawlong also filed his nominations from the same constituency.
NCP candidate Ricky Shullai, who is a relative of former MDC Sanbor Shullai, and KHNAM’s Bankhraw Singh Kharbuli, filed their nominations from Laban-Mawprem constituency.
The process of filing nominations started on Monday and the last date is November 28 before 3pm. Scrutiny of papers will be done on the same day. The by-poll is scheduled for December 13 and counting is on December 16.
Three BJP candidates, including a former police official, filed their nominations in West Khasi Hills.
Denestar Pariong, a former inspector of police who opted for voluntary retirement in 2007, filed his papers from Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency. He was accompanied by district BJP head F. Marwein, state vice-president of BJP Mahila Morcha Pelcy Snaitang and former MDC of Nongstoin T. Wanniang, among others.
Councellor Wahlang and Thunder Warjri of the BJP filed nominations from Nongkhlaw-Mairang and Pariong-Mawthadraishan, respectively.
Wahlang told media persons that demonetisation will help in the country’s development and the ongoing currency pangs will ease with time.
Warjri, on the other hand, said he would fight for the rights of land owners and for preserving Khasi customs and tradition.
Independent candidate Lotsing Lakuna of Syndai village under War East constituency under the JHADC filed his nomination papers on Friday in Amlarem. He is supported by Independent local MLA Stephanson Mukhim.
