SHILLONG: In what could well transform into a new political party in the months to come, suspended Congress leader and KHADC CEM PN Syiem launched the “Campaign for Change” here on Friday. The “Campaign for Change”, which is being dubbed as brainchild of “youths driven by the need to endorse political will”, aims to transform the socio-economic scenario of the state.
That Syiem launched the website of the campaign, www.campaignforchange.org.in, at his residence on Friday points towards his direct involvement in this movement which is apparently political in nature.
“The campaign aims to cover all the issues faced by the people and to take into confidence their views and opinions and translate it into a political agenda,” Syiem said.
Replying to a query on whether the movement is a subtle move to float a new political party, he said, “It may transform (into one)… but we have to first allow people an opportunity to express themselves.”
“After getting the views of the public, we will compile a 10-point agenda for the state and probably go ahead to prepare a vision document,” Syiem added even as he invited other political parties to join the campaign.
“There will be public meetings, general discussions with stakeholders and campaign on social media to get the consensus of the people,” the KHADC CEM said.
Pointing out that political parties should start projecting their leaders, he said, “Time has come for all political parties to identify a leader so that people will not be in the dark over who will be the next leader.”
Meanwhile, stating that the theme of the campaign is ‘your expectation is our mission’, “Campaign for Change” chairman Jonah Kharir said, “Our aim is to bring about a change in the socio-economic scenario of the state. There are ranges of issues like unemployment, educational policies etc., staring hard at the state.”
Another member Rennie Sun said, “There are numerous flaws in the current policies and as pillars of the society we should try to bring about a change. Our motto is to bring people on one platform and we urge the youth to join hands with us.”
