SHILLONG: In the age of rampant corruption and dirty politicking, a group of men from Jaintia Hills is on a mission to clean up the system by promoting ‘visionary’ politics.
The group, led by Baitlang Pohsngap, is campaigning for clean vision in politics for a better society.
“We need political leaders with conviction and a clear vision, one who can lead the people of the state. They should be leaders designed by God,” Pohsngap said at a press conference on Saturday.
He observed that a good leader is one who has never practised corruption and does not use muscle or money power to win over people during polls or otherwise.
“Good leaders can bring about change in developmental policies. We urge the public not to accept money from political leaders during electioneering. We appeal Church leaders and NGOs to join hands in our fight for politicians with clean vision,” he added.
Expressing concern over the dearth of good leaders, Pohsngap said, “Leaders today abuse power by using money; they give away free alcohol during election campaigns and what is the end result when they sit in the Legislative Assembly? The common people will be at the receiving end of bad politics in the state.”
He observed that the State would be on a gloomy track with such corrupt leaders at the helm of all power.
“However, there are good leaders around, but they do not come forward to take part in politics,” he added.
