Land acquisition over for Upper Shillong-Sohiong stretch
SHILLONG: The Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road is almost complete and land acquisition for the yet to be constructed Upper Shillong-Sohiong stretch is over.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said that land acquisition for the incomplete Upper Shillong-Sohiong stretch is overand the district administration has to now pay around Rs 102 crore as compensation to the owners. He added that around Rs 33 crore has already been paid.
“The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways would soon sanction the money for land compensation,” he said, and added that the fund will be handed over to the PWD and then disbursed to the land owners through the DC’s office. He also informed that there is no opposition to land acquisition and all the land owners have cooperated with the project.
The work along the 264.30KM Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road at the cost of Rs 1494 crore started in February 2011 and was scheduled to be completed by March 2014.
The road which is scheduled to start from Upper Shillong connects with Jengjal, around 30KM from Tura.
