SHILLONG: The Education Department has come up with twin initiatives – the first to get a database of teachers in the State and the second to rationalise teachers in schools all over Meghalaya.
The commissioner and secretary of education, D.P Wahlang, said on Tuesday in the first initiative, the government will come up with Teachers Information Management System (TIMS) for which a bid took place one and a half years ago and the work was allotted to IFLS technology.
“A software is being developed which will be used to ensure that data of the teachers of both government and deficit school can be stored and updated,” Wahlang said.
Another step is to rationalise the teachers in schools as there are complaints of inadequate teacher-student ratio.   There were reports in the past that while there are more teachers, the number of students is less in many schools, and in some instances, the number of students is more but they are not properly taught as there are only a few teachers.
Wahlang said the work related to rationalisation of teachers began a month ago and the report will be submitted by the official concerned of the School Education and Literacy by February 15 next.
“The intention of the department is to ensure that when the school reopens, there is adequate number of teachers for students and vice-versa by replacement and posting,” Wahlang added.
