ILP damage suit, murder cases still pending

SHILLONG: Only one witness in a three-year-old case against 14 pressure groups has been examined so far and more than 50 witnesses are yet to appear before the special court.
The next date for hearing in the Rs 31-crore damage suit pending before the Special Court will be held on December 7. The suit was filed during the ILP movement in 2013-14.
Besides, three murder cases are also pending before the court.
The three persons were set ablaze during the agitations demanding implementation of ILP in 2013.
The murder cases of 2013 due to petrol bomb attacks are of city residents – 74-year-old woman Vidyadevi Chowkani (74), at Police Bazar on October 26, trader Bikash Nandwal (44) at Motphran on October 9 and Bisheshwar Kumar Das (50) at Bishnupur on November 16.
Sources said one of the murder cases without naming the case is in the evidence stage while other murder is in the consideration of Charges (CC) stage.
