‘CM panel on promotion of cashless economy’
AGARTALA: The BJP state unit on Wednesday lashed out at Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for refusing the offer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be a member of the chief ministerial committee on promotion of cashless economy.
BJP state president Biplab Deb here on Wednesday said the Prime Minister had shown respect to Sarkar by offering him the post in an important committee for bringing transparency in the financial transactions but by declining it the CM dishonoured the sentiment of the people of Tripura.
“Modi has been taking visionary decisions for betterment of India from day one of assuming office. The latest demonetisation of high value currencies is one of them. To prevent corruption and circulation of black money, cashless transaction is the only option left for India and it will not get affected anyway if Sarkar does not join the committee,” Deb stated.
He pointed out that it was a golden opportunity for him to represent the northeastern states in the national level committee and elaborate the problems of the region to the highest policy making body but Sarkar did not do it because of his narrow political interest.
“Leftists are known to be opportunist and anti-Indian. In several occasions, they nakedly supported China and Pakistan and in case of demonetisation, the CPI-M stands with their interest. By refusing to represent in such an important committee, Mr Sarkar once again proved his Marxist character,” Deb added.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress stated that by offering the post to lone Leftist CM, Mr Modi has proved the close relation of CPI-M and BJP, which was alleged by them for long.
“Cashless economy and digital mode of transaction are technical issues. How can someone like Mr Sarkar contribute in such process when he candidly always confesses his limitation in operating his mobile phone and computer. It shows Modi attempted to make the CPI-M happy by including Sarkar in the committee,” attributed Trinamool MLA Sudip Roy Barman.
He further stated that Mr Modi has forgotten the status of his countrymen after rampant visits across the world using public money.
Sarkar refused to be part of the Prime Minister’s proposed panel of chief ministers to be entrusted with the task of recommending ways and means of ushering India into a ‘cashless’ or ‘less-cash’ economy. (PTI)
