Crime on the rise in State

SHILLONG: More than 2,500 cases of crime have been reported in the State till September this year indicating a sharp rise in crime in Meghalaya.Police statistics reveal that 2,553 cases under cognizable crimes have been reported in the State from January till September. Of the cases, 708 are of theft while there are 137 cases of rash driving and road rage. In addition, there were also 115 cases of kidnapping and 64 cases of rape besides 55 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage their modesty.According to police data, there were 78 cases of murder in the State followed by 54 murder attempts. There were also 157 cases of cheating and 35 cases of forgery.  There were also 60 cases of causing death by negligence under Section 304-A of the IPC.
