SHILLONG: With just a week left for the by-polls to the six KHADC and lone JHADC seats, parties are making claims and counter claims to ensure victory.
However, the by-poll will be a test for the ruling Congress and the BJP that has put up candidates in all the seven seats. Congress member Prestone Tynsong had earlier said the party is expecting to win the MDC by-election. BJP spokesperson Basu Chakravorty too had sounded hopeful.
Other party leaders are also banking on their respective strength to win the seats.
P. Pangniang, an HSPDP member, is optimistic that people will support the party as it had played a major role in its demand for statehood.
“People said they have allowed the Congress sufficient time, now it is time to allow the party who in its earlier years of formation was instrumental in demanding statehood. The people have decided to extend complete support,” he said.
UDP member Allantry Dkhar is also hopeful of the party’s victory. He said, “Demonetisation has worked in our favour as money power will be lessened to a great extent because the party does not believe in money power.”
He is hopeful that the party will be able to win the seven seats in the MDC by-election.
