SHILLONG: Tura MP Conrad K. Sangma held a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at Williamnagar Circuit House on Wednesday to review the implementation of Central schemes in East Garo Hills.
The meeting, which is convened every three months, focused on the need to sensitise people about the Centre’s rural jobs scheme in the district. Sangma assured the gathering that he would take up problems in implementing MGNREGA with the Rural Development Ministry.
Songsak MLA Nihim D. Shira highlighted the problems faced during opening bank accounts by the VEC job cardholders and the MP assured to take up the issue with the regional manager of SBI. Sangma asked bank officials to send a proposal for opening an SBI branch at Dobu. Reviewing the implementation of PMGSY, IAY and soil and water conservation, among other schemes, Sangma said he would look into the late receipt of funds from the State. He also promised to fund a solar water pump project under the MPLAD scheme.
