12-year-old hangs self in WJH after ‘failing in exams’

JOWAI: Two more suicide cases, including that of a minor’s, were reported here on Thursday.
Standard Shylla of Mowkaiaw village filed an FIR that his 12-year-old son Bankerlang Shadap hanged himself in their residence. Police said there was no foul play and hence postmortem exemption was give.
Bankerlang failed in his examination and this might have led him to take the extreme step, police concluded. However, no suicide note was found near his body.
In a similar case, one Hunmon Sutnga of Khliehiongriang in Jowai filed an FIR saying his 27-year-old daughter Rose Lahun Paswet hanged herself at their residence. She was married and was a mother of a five-year-old girl.
In this case too exemption from postmortem was allowed though the probable cause of death could not be ascertained, said police and added that there was no suicide note.
On December 5, a young couple committed suicide by hanging themselves at Satpator village in Amlarem sub-division of the district.
The couple, Boymi (Boimi) Mulat (19) and Cherish Dkhar (18), took the extreme step owing to pressure from their families to stay apart despite being married.
