Eleven shops gutted in city

SHILLONG: As many as 11 shops near Sankardev College in Bishnupur were gutted when a fire broke out around 12.30am on Friday.
Though the exact reason of the fire is not known, initial findings are that flames may have spread from a fire that was left unattended.
Police said the incident took place around 12.30 am and the patrol party noticed the fire at 1.30 am.
The situation was brought under control around 2.30 am thanks to the timely intervention of fire tenders. There were many other shops in the same row, but they were not affected as the fire was doused in time. No casualty was reported.
According to the shopkeepers, the fire may have spread from a shop where charcoal was stored.
The loss is estimated at several lakhs of rupees. NCP candidate Ricky Shullai offered his help to the needy.
