NONGSTOIN: The by-poll candidates of Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency held a common platform meeting at Rambrai on Friday.
Thousands of people gathered at the meeting that was kicked off by HSPDP. The party’s vice-president and local MLA, K.P Pangniang, started his speech by criticising the ruling Congress government in the State for not declaring Rambrai a C&RD block.
HSPDP candidate W.C Paliar said the party “stands for the right of the public” and that it had prohibited infiltration in the district.
UDP candidate Morningstar Tympuin focused on issues concerning MUDA, the Marriage Act and the Village Administration Bill. He also slammed HSPDP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit for advocating Article 371(A), by stating that Ardent wanted to bring down the district councils in the state.
Ardent had brought a resolution in Assembly in September 2015 stating that   Article 371(A) should be made applicable to Meghalaya like Nagaland to do away with multiple authorities.
During the campaign, Congress candidate Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang said he had contested from Rambrai constituency twice and if he doesn’t make it to the KHADC this time, it would be a great loss to the constituency since he would not be able to serve the people of Rambrai in terms of development.
The BJP was the last to try and reach out to the public. Dennestar Pariong, a party candidate, BJP state general secretary and in charge of East Jaintia Hills District David Kharsati and vice president of the Mahila Mandal Pelcy Snaitang were among people present at the meeting.
Pariong said the BJP will eradicate corruption in the constituency and according to him there is an advantage now since the BJP is at the Centre and the party is keen to provide packages for the development of the area.
