Oil tanker fire claims another life

JOWAI: Another person seriously injured in the capsized oil tanker fire incident at Mookhep village on Thursday succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday at a local traditional hospital run by an individual in Takhniang village under Nongjngi Elaka in West Jaintia Hills.
The victim was identified as Dame Ryngkhlem of Wapungskur village. Ryngkhlem is the second person to die in the incident. On Saturday, one Marius Sumer of the same village succumbed to his burn injuries.
“Another seriously injured person identified as Piros Shadap was shifted from the same traditional healing centre to NEIGRIHMS on Tuesday,” a village resident informed.
The Silchar-bound tanker lost control and overturned at Mookhep on Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, more than 30 people from nearby villages gathered at the spot with buckets to collect petrol that was leaking from the tanker.
Sources said someone in the melee might have lighted a cigarette as the truck suddenly caught fire and blew off injuring 12 persons.
