West Shillong development task force meet

SHILLONG: The first meeting of the reconstituted task force on development and infrastructure of West Shillong constituency was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
The meeting was attended by local MLA Paul Lyngdoh, government officials from various departments and representatives of 10 dorbar shnongs of the area.
The task force reviewed the progress of developmental activities in the constituency. The Executive Engineer, National Highway, during the meeting informed that work for improvement of the road and footpath from Jeep Stand up to Lumdiengjri police station has received sanction and will commence shortly.
The Executive Engineer, PHE informed that the new overhead tank at Iewduh with enhanced capacity has been sanctioned and work has already started and is scheduled to be completed in a year’s time.
Meanwhile, it was also learnt that street lighting will receive due attention and new CFL bulbs will be made available in the localities shortly and to supplement this project, solar fitted lightings will be introduced. The first phase of the project will be formally inaugurated on December 23 by the local MLA.
On the issue of shifting of the slaughterhouse from Jaiaw Langsning-Sunny Hills point to the modern abattoir at Mawiong, the minister in charge informed that a training programme is underway to equip the staff of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department with the technical expertise so as to facilitate early commencement of the project.
With this training and completion of the abattoir, all traditional slaughterhouses within the Municipal area will be shifted to the modern abattoir. The task force will again meet after its formal notification to review the progress of work on the projects already discussed.
