SHILLONG: The KSU on Tuesday urged the State government to implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, and the Meghalaya Benami Transaction Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 2016, by constituting a district task force at the earliest.
The union, which convened a meeting on Tuesday, discussed other contentious issues like uranium mining, railways and Aadhaar.
In connection with the facilitation centre (entry and exit points), the union urged the State government to expedite the social impact assessment, especially in Ri Bhoi.
“The union has decided that it will meet the KHADC CEM seeking information on the Rs 20 crore allotted by the KHADC to repair the single-lane road as we opposed the construction of two-lane roads from Nongstoin to Mawthabah,” said KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa while referring to the uranium mining issue.
On railway connectivity, the union said they stand to oppose the project from Tetelia-Byrnihat and Byrnihat-Shillong till a “strong mechanism is in place to curb the flow of illegal migrants”.
On Aadhaar, the union demanded that the citizens should be made aware on the unique identification number.
