SHILLONG: Three persons from Sohra, Umroi Madan and Jowai have accused Chief Engineer of PHE Department, S.K Sunn, of sanctioning huge funds under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for all villages under Mawphlang constituency “for political gains”.
The trio – Khraw Kupar Lyngdoh, Albinus Shadap and Yowanme – alleged that Sunn, who intends to contest the 2018 Assembly elections from Mawphlang constituency, is sanctioning Rs 50,000-1,00,000 under the central cleanliness scheme for all villages in Mawphlang constituency but has ignored those villages and towns which require more attention to achieve open defecation free status.
The three residents said the Government should be stricter with officers by laying down clear rules to control the “political robbery of public funds”.
The three residents have urged the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister, NGOs and even the Rangbah Shnong to raise objections against such practices.
Attempts were made to contact the nodal officer of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for the Meghalaya but he could not be contacted.
