SHILLONG: The city is all set to usher in New Year with the Shillong Midnight Festival at Polo Grounds on December 31. On the occasion revellers will take the oath of making Shillong a cleaner and better place for all.
The cultural and musical extravaganza among others is expected to be witnessed by hundreds of tourists and locals alike.
In a statement to the press, the organisers of the festival said, “Besides being a tourism and cultural showcase, the Shillong Midnight Festival provides a modern, safe, diverse and entertaining platform for the communities of the town to share and celebrate together.”
Some of the artistes performing at the festival will be Soulmate, Instinct, HEAR, Dossers Urge, DJ Favian and DJ Knack.
The theme for this year’s Shillong Midnight Festival is ‘Peace, Harmony & Progress’ and ‘Keep Meghalaya Clean & Green’ in 2017.
“The Shillong Midnight Festival is also an opportunity to get a wide audience on board with a mission to keep the State clean and green and preserve Meghalaya’s natural wealth. Prior to the New Year’s countdown, the public will be invited to take a pledge to keep the state clean and green,” it stated.
An initiative of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the Shillong Midnight Festival is being organised by the District Arts and Culture Society, East Khasi Hills.
