SHILLONG: The suspended Congress legislator and KHADC chief, P.N Syiem, has adopted a cautious approach in deciding the future course of action as to whether to form a new party or to join an existing one.
“As of now, I cannot say anything about the formation of any new political party even as there is a plethora of old parties in the State,” Syiem said.
He, however, indicated that in the New Year, the legislators who wish to break away from their respective parties will take a final decision.
Syiem, however, said it is too early to make a final political decision on his part.
The Congress had suspended Syiem for three years for “anti-party activities”, but without giving him any show-cause notice.
The suspension would mean that Syiem would not be able to contest on a Congress ticket in the 2018 Assembly polls.
Sources said the Congress is nurturing a bureaucrat to be a party candidate to contest from Mawsynram, the seat currently held by Syiem.
In this context, there is no other option for Syiem but to contest as Independent or choose any other party.
