Meghalaya houses in Delhi ignore common man’s plight
SHILLONG: The luxurious and spacious Meghalaya houses at Anand Vihar and on Aurangazeb Road in the national capital often ignore the plight of common citizens and students forcing them to fend for themselves.
A student from the State said he was “dumped in the dormitory” of the guest house at Anand Vihar. “In fact, I got a letter from the GAD Department in the Secretariat urging the officials in Meghalaya House to give me a room but I was dumped in the dormitory though there were several empty rooms here,” the youth said.
Looking at the plight of the common man, one wonders whether the two State guest houses in New Delhi are only meant for VIP guests and bureaucrats.
In another instance, two persons from the State tried their luck at both the guest houses on Monday but were offered dormitory accommodation though rooms were empty.
The duo first visited the guest house on Aurangazeb Road where they were informed that none of the rooms was available and even the dormitory was full. However, the officials there were courteous enough to call a taxi for the hassled persons.
One Lakshman told the persons that only dormitory is available at the Anand Vihar guest house. The two were forced to travel in the chilling weather of New Delhi and on reaching Anand Vihar, they were denied room despite repeated requests. The receptionist there said he could not help since the rooms are allotted by the officials of the Meghalaya House on Aurangzeb road.
On the contrary, the employees at Meghalaya House in Kasba in South Kolkata are friendlier and welcome guests from the State with warm smiles.
