SHILLONG: The expression of interest for submitting the structural design by the concerned parties for the construction of the new Assembly building has been called by the Assembly Secretariat.
An official with the Assembly Secretariat said that several applicants have responded to the expression of interest.
Earlier, the site for the construction of new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang was finalised by the High Power Committee of the Assembly.
On January 9, 2001, fire gutted the heritage Assembly building and several attempts were made by the government to get a suitable site for the construction of the new Assembly.
With the floating of the expression of interest, the Assembly Secretariat wanted wider participation by experts to provide better structural designs for construction of the new Assembly.
The official said the plan is to construct the Assembly in a phase-wise manner due to the paucity of funds. The priority will be the construction of the Assembly Chamber and the Secretariat.
