Tremor creates panic in city

SHILLONG: In a reminder to the earthquake of January 4 last year, another tremor of moderate intensity shook parts of Shillong on Tuesday afternoon.
The earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in Dhalai district of Tripura occurred around 2.39 pm. The tremor was felt in parts of Meghalaya.
Many residents here ran out of their houses during the tremor that lasted for a few seconds. However, there was no incident of any damage to property or injuries to any individual.
On January 4 last year, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale shook parts of city damaging a few buildings.
The same tremor that had the epicenter in Manipur had caused devastation in that state as eleven people were killed, over 200 persons injured and many buildings damaged.
One dead in Tripura
Meanwhile, the earthquake triggered landslides in Tripura leaving a woman dead and four others injured. Panic-stricken people ran out of homes, offices and buildings in the region.
50-year-old woman Kamalini Kanda died after suffering a heart attack at her residence at Natunbagan in Kamalpur sub-division of the district, local MLA, Anjan Das, informed.
