SHILLONG: The indefinite strike by the employees of Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC), which begins from 6am on Thursday, will affect both tourists and locals.
K. Rumnong, general secretary of MTC workers’ union, said the strike would continue till the managing director invites employees’ representatives to the negotiation table.
All MTC services – which include railway booking counters, helicopter and bus services – will be paralysed by the strike. Those who want to opt for the inter-state bus service will be the worst affected.
The MTC union decided to intensify the agitation after the Government failed to fulfil their demands. It had set January 15 deadline for the Government to pay three months’ salary to the employees. It had also demanded ouster of MD A. Nikhla.
