SHILLONG: The A.chik Youth Council (AYC) has urged the Chief Forest Officer, GHADC to ensure that forest staff adhere to their professional ethics, pledge allegiance to preserve and conserve the environment from exploitation and illegal activities and restraint from fresh and random issuance of any kind of NOC in near future.
In a letter to the GHADC forest official, the AYC said it was looking forward to protect and preserve the environment from exploitation of the natural land, forest, water and other resources within the region.
The AYC has ruled out any negotiation with timber smugglers citing an incident which occurred at Bajamara, in Rajabala, West Garo Hills, where foresters and guards of both Selsella Forest Beat and Balachanda Forest Check Gate under the Phulbari Range, GHADC and members of Achik Youth Council came under  attack of the criminals.
The AYC also asked GHADC to upgrade its forest wing to face the challenges of the timber smugglers.
