SHILLONG: The employees’ union of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) on Thursday called off the indefinite strike after the managing director, A. Nikhla, assured them one month’s salary.
Speaking to reporters, general secretary of the union K. Rumnong said, “The MD said the management has no money but it has spoken to the Chief Minister for the release of Rs 90 lakh and it depends on the management to send the proposal on Friday. Hence we called off the temporary strike so as to allow the management to proceed with the proposal for the Rs 90 lakh subsidy.”
Rumnong said not less than Rs 70 lakh is needed for paying the salary to all the staff.
“She (the MD) will move the 20 per cent economy cut along with earnings, she will write to the government to ask for additional benefit in order to maintain the office etc and other outstanding dues under the CPF,” he added.
