SHILLONG: More arrests were made in connection with the sex racket case involving the 14-year-old girl from Ichamati, East Khasi Hills, after she lodged a complaint with Laban police station on December 16. The girl, in her statement, had said she was trafficked to various guest houses and hotels and was raped.
Police on Thursday arrested Sandip Biswa, husband of Mamoni Parveen, the kingpin in taking the girl to different places. Biswa had ferried the girl to different places along with Mamoni and others. Police also seized his vehicle.   The matter came to light following the FIR filed by the girl after she was sexually exploited on the night of December 15 at Marvelene’s Inn at Rilbong. The guest house is run by the family of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh.
The next day, Usha Deb Barman, a waiter at the guest house, and Mamoni were arrested.
Later, a client at Marvelene’s Inn, Madan Bahadur Thapa, surrendered to the police.
Following this, other accomplices in the crime, Tarisha Mary Kharbamon and Mona Lisa Shangpliang were arrested.
Though Mamoni and Mary were earlier arrested in connection with the Marvelene’s Inn case and are currently under judicial custody, police re-arrested them on Friday in connection with the involvement of their house owner at Madanrting, who had also sexually exploited the girl. They will be in police custody for three days.
