Defending Champions Bengaluru FC outclass Reds 3-0 in opening tie
Shillong: Hero I-League defending champions Bengaluru FC had a good start on the opening day of the league by winning 3-0 against Shillong Lajong FC at the Kanteerva stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Bengaluru had a strong line up and even though they struggled to find their form in the opening quarter of the match, they proved their class by dominating possession throughout the match.
The breakthrough for the Blues came in the 27th minute after Udanta found the net from a corner. Lajong were compact in their formation but lacked the creativity and combination to threaten Bengaluru. The blues kept pressing forward and created many chances.
In the second half, Udanta Singh found the net for the second time after some skilful work inside the box in the 69th minute. Lajong tried hard to get back in the game but did not manage to create enough chances.
Bengaluru sealed the game in the 80th minute when Sena Ralte took a long range half volley shot and beat the keeper to give his team a 3-0 lead. The match ended with BFC getting all three points.
It was not the best of starts for Lajong in the new season but they will hope to earn some points when they play their next match against Mohun Bagan on January 13 in Kolkata in what will be their second consecutive away match.
