SHILLONG: The HSPDP said on Monday H.S Shylla is a threat to the indigenous communities in the State because the Nongkrem MDC had issued no objection certificate to uranium mining in the region during his tenure as the KHADC CEM.
When asked about HSPDP’s decision to support the PDF coalition in the KHADC led by P.N Syiem, Landoner Sohtun, media cell in charge of the party said at a press conference on Monday, “Our support to the PDF coalition will serve as a hindrance to Shylla’s expectation of becoming the next CEM.”
Meanwhile, the party repudiated the allegations of Badarity Nonglait, niece of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, who had alleged that there were misunderstandings in the party under the leadership of Ardent Basaiawmoit.
“She said he (Basaiawmoit) has abused his role as the party president by suspending party members. The allegations are baseless,” Sohtun said.
“We have suspended only P.S Syiem for two years for his anti-party activities. Apart from him, we have not suspended anyone,” he added.
Disproving the statement of L.G Nongsiej who said there was no such suspension during late Lyngdoh’s time, Sohtun said, “We disagree with him as during Lyngdoh’s time, we can recall the suspension of D.T Wanniang, former MDC of Nongstoin, and Fenella Nonglait from the party.”
On MDCs L.G. Nongsiej and Morning Mawsor, he said, “They made a voluntary exit. The party did not expel them.”
With regard to Syiem’s suspension, Sohtun said he intended to topple the ARPA under the leadership of Adelbert Nongrum without discussion with the party members.
“After the Assembly election in Nongstoin, Syiem went against the party and campaigned against it. He campaigned for KHNAM candidate in the recently concluded MDC by-election,” Sohtun said.
