Teachers’ body demands action
Nongpoh: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association here blamed the Ri Bhoi school education officer for being irresponsible and indifferent to the teachers’ problems.
In a press communiqué released on Wednesday, president of the association Clement Mawlong said the officials at the district education office are fail to perform their duties leading to harassment of teachers.
“To make matters worse, the office intentionally delays disbursing our salary and arrear bills to the Treasury and needless to mention to even monitor the sent bills. This is intolerable and punishable as they are responsible for the innumerable woes of the teachers,” he said.
Mawlong also informed that teachers don’t receive their salary on time and they have to face embarrassment many a time.
“The teachers are insulted by banks officials for late payment of loan EMIs. Secondly, they are left clueless how to run their families as money doesn’t come when they really need it. Thirdly, for those who are having health problems, a late salary is almost as good as a delicious dish to a dying person who can no longer enjoy it,” the president of the teachers’ body said and added that due to late payment of salary, they could not celebrate Christmas and New Year with their families.
The teachers demanded strict action against the erring officials. Mawlong said there is a need for dedicated and responsible service from the DSEO personnel who must sincerely perform their duties or relinquish their posts honourably and pave way for other unemployed people.
Mawlong also informed that a delegation of teachers went to meet the DSEO to find out why salary was not paid even after January 9. To their dismay they found out that the new officer had not come to join office, “which is unacceptable”.
