TURA: Renowned poet from Tura, Biswajit Nandi recently had an audience with West Bengal Governor, K N Tripathy where he recited as many as ten original poems in Bengali and English. The poems recited by Nandi on the occasion were based on the life of Tripathy.
Nandi is one of the popular poets in Meghalaya and also well known in Kolkata and Bangladesh.
He has contributed several hundreds of Bengali poetry and articles in the literary field. His creative writings consist of poetry, folklore, culture, language & literature.
He has been honoured with number of awards from India and Bangladesh. He received the prestigious Michael Madhusudan Award for his poetry collection in 2013, International Matri Bhasa Award, Dhaka in 2011, Dr Ambedkar National Excellency Award in 2012 among others.
So far, he has six books to his credit and his works have been translated into other Indian languages including Garo, Hindi, English, Nepali and Assamese.
Speaking of his achievement Nandi said that literature could be instrumental in bringing harmony amongst various languages in India. “In poetry language has no bar. Poetry enables interaction among languages,” he said.
A certificate of appreciation was later handed over to Nandi by the Governor.
