SHILLONG: The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Shillong, on Thursday condemned the recent incidents of crime against women and children in the State.
In a press communiqué, the Association said, “Women and girls are to be respected. They are wonderful creatures of God. Ironically, even as the nation is growing, expanding economically and transforming socially, there are millions of women and girls who still remain vulnerable and exploited.”  The organisation also lamented that even in a matrilineal society, women face abuses and said the society has lost moral values. Questioning the safety of women in the State, the YWCA noted that both men and women need to raise their voices to put an end to violence against women and trafficking of children.
The Association urged the authorities concerned to voice their opposition against such atrocities and look into the effective implementation of laws, penalties against culprits and rehabilitation of victims in order to end the atrocities.
