Awareness programme on child marriage

NONGPOH: A one-day awareness programme on child marriage was held at the community hall of Saiden village on Thursday.
The programme titled ‘Consequences of Child Marriage’ was aimed at sensitising adolescent teenagers of the village.
It was supported by the Saiden Women Welfare Organisation.
Umsning MLA Celestine Lyngdoh, who was the chief guest at the event, said, “Child marriages affect the child both physically and mentally and in turn affects the society.”
The MLA urged village elders and parents to work in tandem to eradicate the menace of child marriage. As many as 300 youths attended the programme.
