SHILLONG: KHNAM working president Adelbert Nongrum has slammed the State Government for not taking the contentious issue of MUDA building bye laws seriously. A KHNAM delegation recently met KHADC chief executive member P.N Syiem to remind him of the issues.
KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah said people encounter problems as they to seek building permission and other requirements.
“The KHADC opposition to the MUDA building bye laws reached its peak but it felt quiet after some time. We recalled that the State Government has denotified the order,” he said.
He recollected that after the High Court order to include all areas in the State under the building bye laws, the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority had notified that the bye laws 2011 would be operational in the Master Plan areas of Shillong which served as a setback to the KHADC.
“Our demand is that the State Government should appeal to the Supreme Court against the High Court order. It is comfortable with the decision which means it is glad that MUDA has extended its jurisdiction to scheduled areas,” Passah said and added that Syiem would look into the issue in February.
Meanwhile, Passah demanded that the State Government formulate the State Youth Policy at the earliest. It was a demand that the regional party has made even during the National Youth Day celebration last year.
Passah said the draft state youth policy was done way back in 2012.
