SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has informed that the Government has agreed to construct the PWD road from 13th Mile to Killing in Ri Bhoi district to connect border villages in these areas.
Betty Jyrwa, president of HANM’s women’s wing, in her address has expressed gratitude to the State Government. “It was in 2015 that we had protested against the adamant attitude of the Government for the construction of the 5 ½ km road,” Jyrwa said.
Lamphrang Kharbani, president of HANM, added, “We urge the contractors to speed up the road construction project which will benefit the residents of the villages.”
Jyrwa informed that the road construction project costs Rs 4.50 crore and the time limit is 18 months.
The women’s wing of HANM had staged an indefinite hunger strike to protest against the lackadaisical attitude of the government.
According to the protesters, the people residing in the Assam-Meghalaya border of Killing, Umtyrnga, are facing problems as their pleas for good roads fall on deaf ears.
