SHILLONG: The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) and the Thma-U-Rangli-Juki (TUR), who are pursuing the rape and trafficking case involving a minor girl, have questioned the veracity of the State Government’s decision to transfer the investigating officers. The groups also found no logic in transferring a case from Laban police station to Madanrting.
The police last December raided Marvelene Inn’s at Rilbong after a complaint by a minor girl and arrested a waiter and a few pimps.
The case was first registered in Laban police station but was later transferred to Madanrting to an officer in the woman police station.
Recently, another notification was issued and as per the Meghalaya police website, the officer in charge of Madanrting police station has now been transferred to CID and the officer from CID is taking charge as OC of Madanrting.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing questioned as to why the case was transferred from Laban Police station to Madanrting police station even though the place of occurrence was under the jurisdiction of Laban police station.
“They registered a case in Laitumkhrah police station against Julius Dorphang saying the place of occurrence is in Motinagar so how can the case be transferred from Laban to Madanrting when the place of occurrence is Rilbong,” she said.
Reiterating their demand to remove H.D.R Lyngdoh from the post of Home Minister till the investigation is complete, she said the police need to investigate independently and book anyone who tries to put pressure on them. “The case is being transferred and officers are being transferred. Are they efficient enough or are coming under pressure,” she said while questioning as to who was the officer who ordered the transfer of the case from Laban to Madanrting. On the other hand, TUR member Angela Rangad said efficient officers should be assigned for speedy investigation and added that frequent transfers of officers are not good as the new officer who takes over the case will have to start from the scratch.
