Shillong Cricket Academy opens admission
Shillong: The admission to the first quarter of 2017 to the Shillong Cricket Academy is opened for boys and girls in the age group 7 –  12 years of age. Forms are available at SCA office Polo during office hours. The last date for submission of completed forms is January 22, 2017. The academy has started a sponsorship for students with financial difficulties.

Block level Gramode football tournament held at Ri-Bhoi
Nongpoh: With an aim of promoting football in Ri Bhoi District, a Block Level Gramode Football Tournament was organised by the office of the District Sports Officer in collaboration with the Basin Development Unit and Soil & Water Conservation Department, Ri Bhoi District where 21 teams from various Watershed Circles from the three C & RD Blocks of the district took part. The two finalists from each Block will participate in the District League Level Football Tournament to be held on the 24th of January 2017 and the final match will be held at NSCA Mini Stadium Nongpoh on the 26thJanuary 2017. The official’s who organised the tournament were PM Marbaniang, DSO Ri Bhoi, Raymond Lyngdoh, Manager BDU Ri Bhoi, F Syiemiong Asst. Soil & Water Conservation Officer, Nongpoh Division,  VC War, CDPO Umling and others from the Soil & Water Conservation Department, Western Ri Bhoi Sports Association and Ri Bhoi District Sports Association. It was under the financial assistance of the Basin Development Unit, Ri Bhoi District.

DSO Ri-Bhoi to organise Republic Day Run 2017
Nongpoh:The Office of the  Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the District Sports Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh will organise the Republic  Day Run 2017(open category), for both women and men to be flag off from Saiden Indoor Stadium to NSCA Indoor Stadium, Umlakdait on the 25th of January 2017 at 6.30 am. The District Sports Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh invites all interested participants from Ri-Bhoi to participate. There will be cash prize, 1st prize – Rs 5,000/, 2nd prize – Rs 3,000/-, 3rd prize – Rs 1,000/-, and special prize for youngest and oldest participants.Interested participants can register themselves at the office of the DSO, Ri-Bhoi District during office hours.The last date for registration will be the 24th of January 2017.

1st Grassroots football tournament held at Laitkor
Shillong: The 1st Grassroots Under-10 and Under-12 boys football tournament which was organised by the Laitkor Rngi Sports and Cultural Club was inaugurated on Tuesday at Madan Football Laitkor by a game played between Future Kids (Rangbih bih) who won against Laitkor Rngi SCC Academy by 1-0.It was inaugurated by Helston Kharkongor, General Secretary, Laitkor Dorbar Pyllun along with the headman,Seng Samla Shnong Laitkor, Seng Kynthei Laitkor, Laitkor Sports Club and members of the Meghalaya Youth Foundation. Altogether there were four teams under Under-10 (Boys) and eight teams under Under-12 (Boys).The tournament will end on 21st January 2017 on Saturday.

Indian U-17 football team lose 0-1 against Iran
St. Petersburg (Russia): The Indian U-17 football World Cup team lost 0-1 against Iran in the Granatkin Tournament here on Tuesday. The Indian colts will now face Tajikistan in a play-off match on Jan 20 for the 15th-16th positions in a tournament that featured 16 teams. The Indian team dominated the early proceedings and in the eighth minute Abhijit Sarkar failed to tap the ball home into an empty net. Iran went ahead in the 40th minute as Sharifi scored. India upped the ante in the second half but Sarkar and his team-mates failed to finish off promising moves, eventually going down 0-1. (IANS)
