SHILLONG: A Good Samaritan in the city helped police track a woman from Assam who allegedly took her three-year-old son and eloped with her paramour.
On January 14, Kossing Hojai of Assam’s Dima Hasao district lodged a complaint at Sadar police station about his missing daughter and grandchild (Amit Dutta).
Sub-inspector S. Lynrah of Sadar police station and his team immediately launched a search of all hotels and found that the woman and her child stayed in Police Bazar with a man, who was later identified as Amit Langthasa from Assam. But by the time the police team reached, they had checked out for Cherrapunjee.
CCTV footages showed the woman, her toddler and the man leaving in a local taxi.
On January 17, Rama Singh of Goralane in Laitumkhrah, the driver of the local taxi, came to the police station and narrated the story and he led the Police team to the place where he had dropped them.
The woman was found in a lodge at Mawdiandiang.
Langthasa was handed over to Assam Police, who had registered a case against him, and the girl and the child were handed over to the family members, who thanked police for their prompt action.
The police, on the other hand, have thanked the taxi driver and urged others to inform cops in case they have any information which may save innocent lives.
