Governor to visit Itanagar
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will hoist the Tricolour and take salute at the Republic Day parade on January 26 instead of Governor V. Shanmuganathan.
Informing this here on Wednesday after the Cabinet meeting, Sangma said Shanmuganathan, who is holding the additional charge as governor of Arunachal Pradesh, will be in Itanagar on the day.
On a query whether there is a political reason behind the Governor’s decision to take salute in Arunachal Pradesh, Sangma refused to comment.
The Cabinet meeting also decided on the names of the VIPs who will take salute in the district headquarters and blocks.
Home Minister H.D.R Lyngdoh and Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will take salute in Nongstoin and Nongpoh, respectively.
Deputy Chief Minister R.C Laloo will take salute in Jowai and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma will be in Tura on the day.
School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak will be in Williamnagar and Urban Affairs Minister R.V Lyngdoh will visit Baghmara for the R-Day parade.
DCA Minister Prestone Tynsong will be in Mawkyrwat, Health and Family Welfare Minister Roshan Warjri in Resubelpara, PWD (Roads) Minister M.M Danggo in Ampati and Forest and Environment Minister Clement Marak will be in Daddengre for the salute.
Meanwhile, Sangma said the situation in Meghalaya in terms of law and order has changed and people are coming forward to participate in national and state day celebrations.
He added that all deputy commissioners have been asked to take charge of the situation on Republic Day and Meghalaya Day to ensure peaceful celebrations.
