Shillong/Tura: To celebrate the 45th Statehood Day Celebration on 21st January, 2017, the Government of Meghalaya will organise a series of programmes across the state.
At the State Capital, Deputy Chief Minister, Prof. R. C. Laloo will grace the function at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong at 11:00 am.
The programme will include distribution of Meghalaya Day Excellence Awards for Government employees, Kayakalp Award to 2 District Hospitals and 3 CHCs, songs, flute recitals and performance by artists from the Centre of Excellence in Indian Classical & Western Music and Flower show at the premises.
The Assam Rifles Pipe Band will also take part in the celebration by performing at Ward’s Lake, Shillong from 2:00 pm onwards. Free entry from 10:00 am onwards.
At Polo ground, a Womens’ Exhibition Football Match will be held at 3rd Ground, Polo at 2:00 pm to be followed by a musical extravaganza featuring guest artist Julia Bliss from Russia and local bands which includes Snow White, Akhia, Arpan DJ Set, Gino, Dewdrops, Ooto Garage, K. Bloodz, Elton DJ Set, Fame the Band to be held at Polo Parking Lot, Polo from 4:00 pm.
Besides various cuisines will also be available for the people at the venue. All are welcome to attend and entry will be free at all venues.
Meanwhile, the district administration in West Garo Hills will celebrate the 45th Meghalaya Day at District Auditorium, Tura from 10:00 AM. Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Zenith M Sangma will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.
On the same day, the year-long celebrations for the attainment of 150 years of Tura Town on December 1, 2017 will also kick start with various programmes all year round.
”Peace Concert – A Tribute to Country Legends” would also be organised from 4 PM onwards which would showcase the talents of aspiring dynamic youth of the region including Prayer for Peace which will be led by Reverend Greaterburn Marak.
(L) Smt. Yamuna Naik Awards 2016 for Meritorious Student will also be distributed in recognition of the outstanding performance in Class X examinations held during the year 2016. Smti Fridina K Marak would be awarded posthumously for her immense contributions to the society and Biswajit Nandi, a renowned poet would also be awarded on this occasion.
Meanwhile at Ampati in South West Garo Hills preparation are on in full swing for the 45th anniversary of statehood day celebration on Saturday, which will be attended by Meghalaya chief minister Mukul M. Sangma.
The Ampati Student’s Field is being decked up for the state’s official programme where a series of cultural programme to showcase the rich rendition of different tribes will be held.
The chief minister will also hand over solar lanterns to students of South West Garo Hills on the occasion.
The celebration will kick off with a Meghalaya Day Marathon at 7 am from Ampati Students Field. The marathon is open to all.
“We would like to create awareness on the important day amongst the masses, especially children and pay homage to the leaders, who had made sacrifices to achieve the state in a non-violent and peaceful manner”, said Jasper Marak, district sports officer.
In the afternoon, the chief minister will kick off the Gramoday football match, while in the evening, rock band from Shillong – Colours and all girl band Haystack Ladies from Tura will take on the stage to croon the crowd at Ampati.
