TURA: SSA school teachers from Garo Hills and the state in general have served a deadline until January 31 to the state government to do away with the current system of categorized payment of their salaries. The decision is the outcome of the meeting between the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) and the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) held on Thursday at the Khasi National Durbar Hall in Shillong.
We want the government to know that ‘categorized payment’ is in violation of Article 14 of the Indian Constitution. The principle states ‘Equal pay for equal work’, so everyone doing the same work is entitled to equal remuneration, they stated.
