SHILLONG: Information and Public Relations Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh viewed that lack of opportunities in the region slackened the progress of technological advancement in the state.
Addressing the audience at the launch of Vodafone 4G in the state on Friday at State Convention Centre, she said, “Technology, somehow, leaves the state at least two decades behind.”
She said that it is not because people are incapable or not well versed with technology but opportunity has not come easy to the people of the region.
Expressing hope that the launch of Vodafone network 4G will bring better opportunities to remotely placed regions of the state which will have access to the information world.
“We are keen imitators of mainland India and very often we tend to overtake mainland India in many spheres and we are sure that this opportunity once delivered to the people will be an added boost to the young and other citizens,” she said. According to Lyngdoh, internet is very relevant especially in a period where there is tremendous change in the modes of transactions.
Meanwhile,Ronnie Lyngdoh, Urban Affairs Minister, who was the guest of honour at the funcion, said that North East gets what is left-over from mainland India.
“Vodafone has found it fit to launch 4G network service in Meghalaya and I think this will create opportunities for people here,” he added.
According to him, competitiveness among service provides will benefit the customers and hoped that with the introduction of 4G, connectivity in the state will improve in the state.
Speaking to reporters later at the end of the launch, Alok Verma, business head, North East and Assam, said that the company has a priority towards the customers and better network experience.
Verma added that Vodafone customers can get the 4G services by upgrading their SIM card and get 2 GB data free.
