SHILLONG: In yet another heinous crime against a minor, a 10-year-old girl was gang raped by seven juveniles on two occasions at Mawten village in South West Khasi Hills district.
As per the FIR, the girl was first raped in a paddy field in the village before Christmas and the crime was committed again on January 13 at her residence at Mawten.
Six of the accused, all of whom hail from Mawten, are in the age group of 14-16 years while one is 11 years old.
On receiving the FIR, South West Khasi Hills police immediately swung into action on Saturday and all the accused were detained.
Police have registered a case against all the accused under Section 376 (g) of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
All the accused have confessed to the crime and have been sent to juvenile home in Shillong.
It may be mentioned that the rape and trafficking of a minor in Shillong has been in the headlines for a while and the fresh gang rape case involving a 10-year-old only goes on to add to the already grim crime scenario in the State.
