SHILLONG: In a late reaction, the Congress party has finally spoken on the issue of crime against women and children.
In a statement, the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee on Tuesday expressed its concern over the rising crimes; rapes, trafficking and other atrocities towards women and children. The Committee said that it is indeed a shame that in a matrilineal society like Meghalaya, women have become sexual preys. “Occurrences of rapes, and sexual abuse of minors has been rising in Meghalaya over the last decade .These heinous crimes depict a grim scenario in the State, the Committee said.
The Committee further added that the law should take its own course and justice should prevail while underlining the importance of conviction of culprits and rehabilitation of victims.
