SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Monday took cognizance of a government official addressing a letter directly to the Registrar General of the Court asking for a certified copy of the report made by the Commissions on street vendors in the city.
The court, on December 16 last, had ordered the Commissions to prepare a report on hawkers and street vendors in Shillong.
The High Court in its order said though this case will be heard on February 10, but the matter was placed on Monday after it was brought to the notice that a government officer, who has been appointed as the nodal officer to deal with the issue, had chosen to address directly a letter to the Registrar General of the Court.
The High Court observed that a tendency among government officials is being noticed that without regard to the sanctity of the judicial process, they are addressing communications directly to the Registrar General in relation to judicial matters.
On being queried if such communications are made with his knowledge, Senior Government Advocate ND Chullai answered in the negative and further submitted that he would take up the issue at an appropriate time and will ensure that such mistakes are not repeated in the future.
Taking note of the submissions made by Chullai, the Court left the matter at that only.
The Court also noticed that an application has been made by K. Baruah, counsel for the Shillong Municipal Board, seeking a certified copy of the inspection reports.
The application may be dealt with by the office appropriately and the matter will be listed on the date already fixed.
