Awareness on child marriage, drug abuse

Nongpoh: In an effort to eliminate the evil effects of child marriage and early pregnancy which is harming the community and society as a whole, the women groups from Mawlein Mawkhan on Friday organised a one-day programme on the theme “Child Marriage and Early Pregnancy, the effect of Drugs on the Youths and Society”.
The awareness programme was organised by Iatreilang Women Welfare Association at the Community Hall of Mawlein Mawkhan in Ri Bhoi District under the leadership of M.D. Syiem as its president. The programme was attended by children and youths from Mawlein Mawkhan and its adjoining villages. Others present were P.L. Kurbah and R. Mawlong, Headman and Secretary of Mawlein Mawkhan including staff from Mawlein Mawkhan Sub Center, Aganwadi workers from the village.
L. Saring, while delivering her speech as a resource person enlightened the gathering on the various ill-effects of child marriage and pregnancy.
