TURA: A BSF jawan deployed along the Indo-Bangla border in South West Garo Hills district committed suicide on Friday morning by shooting himself with his service rifle.
Constable Kamlesh Kumar Gujar (27) from Haryana belonged to the 26 battalion of the BSF, which is based in Praharinagar outside Tura. He was on camp duty at Kalaichar border outpost around 10 am when he shot himself with his INSAS rifle.       The constable was reportedly having problems in his family.
Suicides of jawans are common in the paramilitary force and BSF has done little to solve the problem. Postings away from home coupled with limited leave have compounded the problem of stress and depression within its ranks.
There have been alleged instances of jawans taking their life after failing to obtain leave to go home.
Also, limited family housing facilities at respective places of posting compel jawans to leave their families behind and often problems at home take a toll on them leading to depression.
