City magistrate to monitor cleanliness

SHILLONG: A city magistrate cum executive officer of the Shillong Municipal Board, TSR Marak, has been appointed to “look after the cleanliness issues of the city”.
The order to appoint the officer came from the State Government following the ongoing hawkers’ issue in the city.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S Dkhar informed that the officer would supervise the Shillong Municipal Board in its task to maintain cleanliness in the city.
It is learnt that the idea to come up with an organised system in the city was mooted to ensure cleanliness.
During the entire exercise, shopkeepers’ cooperation will be sought to keep their surroundings clean. Cleaning drives will be another area of focus.
