5-yr jail for withdrawing Rs 9 lakh from Shillong treasury

PATNA: A CBI court here on Tuesday awarded five-year imprisonment to five persons for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 9 lakh from Shillong treasury in 1986.
CBI court judge Sarbjit also slapped Rs 95,000 penalty on each of them.
The matter relates to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 9 lakh from the treasury in Shillong in the name of a retired Army havildar in 1986. Those awarded punishment included kingpin of the gang Dinesh Kumar Sharma. The other four are Dinesh Singh, Arvind Jha, Jay Narayan and Binay Kumar, who retired from the post of naik in the Army.
A probe brought to light that the gang had made fraudulent withdrawal from the treasury of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh too in the past. (PTI)
